Velliantatika

Overview

Velliadatika is a small, picturesque settlement in Paxos, built in a privileged location near Gaios, the capital of the island. It is a quiet, traditional village that preserves the authentic architecture of Paxos, with stone-built houses, narrow streets and green landscape. The name of the settlement comes from the Velliannite family, which lived there in the past.

1. Exploring nature and hiking

Velliadatika is located in a green environment, surrounded by olive groves and cypress trees. The area is ideal for hiking, as there are paths that lead to beautiful parts of the island, as well as hidden coves with crystal clear waters.
Avlaki beach is located 16 minutes walk from the accommodation. It is a beach of wild beauty, in the shape of a groove around rocks.
Opposite the road that leads to Avlaki, one can follow an old stone-built path and within 5 minutes come across the unique architectural structure, the water tank “Sterna Hellenic”, which dates back to the Venetian era. It is built on the edge of a natural rock in a round shape and the collection of water is still done today. In the war it was used to supply ships with drinking water.

2. Visits to nearby beaches

If you live in Velliantatika, you can easily visit some of the most beautiful beaches of the island:

  • Monodendri: An organized beach with pebbles and turquoise waters.
  • Kipiadi: One of the quietest and most pristine beaches of Paxos.
  • Marmari: A beautiful beach that offers relaxation and natural shade.
  • Blue: only accessible by sea. There is an observation point near the village from which you can see the Blue Sea from above but it needs special care.

3. Visit to Gaius

Gaios, the capital of Paxos, is a few minutes’ drive from Velliantatika. There you can stroll along the coastal road, visit traditional taverns and cafés, but also shop in the tourist shops.
